Back for part three, are you? Excellent, welcome back! Let’s round out our Pinterest tutorial with the last four tips; save money/prevent waste with event planning, home reno projects & tech.
Event Planning
Yours truly has a crazy amount of event planning under the belt, ranging from small affairs of 20 people to weekend-long events that catered to thousands, and despite size, what they all have in common is that attention to detail matters most. Whether you’re planning a company event, a birthday party, a wedding, a religious festival, a retirement party – whatever – Pinterest is a planner’s dream for getting every last napkin and table sign conceptualized.
It’s also an excellent tool for it’s collaboration abilities. Invite anyone with a Pinterest account to the board (or boards) you create for your event and they will be able to add their own pins to the board. This is great for brainstorming, especially if there is a distance between you and your fellow planners. And, as always, Pinterest serves as an excellent research platform. You might start planning an event with one particular vision in mind but come out the other end with something even better, thanks to fellow pinners sharing their tips and tricks.
By planning every last detail, you’re less prone to waste time and money on things that might not have been as efficient. You’re able to utilize the comparison shopping method that we highlighted last week in literally every aspect of the event; compare prices on food, decorations, services and more. You might even find exclusive deals offered from vendors on Pinterest, too!
Home Renovation
Pinterest is the home base of do-it-yourself’ers, but it’s not the jaw-clenching, this-might-be-a-disaster-we-should-just-call-a-contractor kind of thing. Dependant on the project, you can find excellent organizational tips, budget saving tips, how-to guides and service reviews on basically anything. Plan your entire renovation on a Pinterest board – title it by the room you’re re-doing and start pinning everything that will go into it: paint colours, furniture, tutorials that will help you bite off what you CAN chew, etc.
It’s also a great source of “reduce, reuse, recycle”. One of the best ways to save money during any home reno project is to keep and re-use as much product as possible (and Pinterest is not short on ideas there, either).
Additionally, don’t limit yourself to the confines of your home, either. Landscaping boards are also ample on Pinterest, and bloggers share step-by-step tutorials on everything from making your own extremely cheap paving stones to how to re-purpose pallets for a raised bed garden.
Technology
Though closely related to the comparison shopping board, we’re broadening the meaning of “tech” here to also include software services, not just hardware. Last January, Buzzfeed released a great list of skills you can learn for free this year, which covered everything from learning a new language to coding. Many of these programs are reviewed on blogs, which in turn are shared on Pinterest (making it easy for you to find all in one place). Simply typing in the word “apps” in the top search bar yields a diverse range of results; budgeting app suggestions included!
